Top Washington, D.C Metro Area Outdoor Photography Locations
This session planning guide provides a comprehensive list of recommended portrait locations in the Washington, D.C Metro Area.
While tourists or private individuals can freely take photos in most places, professional photographers often encounter constraints due to local laws or regulations set by property owners. Unfortunately, many locations in the Washington, D.C Metro Area require permits or special permission for portrait or wedding photographers.

I typically suggest choosing locations where we can avoid large groups and distractions. Therefore, early morning sessions at beach spots are ideal to evade the mid-morning crowds that disperse around sunset. Similarly, for urban settings like downtown Washington, D.C and Old Town Alexandria, early morning sessions are preferable when businesses are closed, and sidewalks are quieter.

Selecting times when bystanders are scarce enhances our ability to focus and broadens our options for photography locations. Generally, we advise against multiple locations during your session, as we can fully explore most spots within a two-hour timeframe without missing out on significant photographic opportunities.

However, if you're set on multiple locations, I'm happy to accommodate your request. Keep in mind that continuous session time means any time spent moving between locations reduces the time available for photography.

If you have a location in mind that's not listed here, please inform me so we can discuss any potential legal, photographic, or situational challenges it may present.
